A shocking security incident has occurred at the Alpha Hour church auditorium, sparking widespread public reaction and renewed conversations around safety at places of worship in Ghana.
According to confirmed reports, a woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to set fire to the Grace Mountain Ministries auditorium, the church associated with the popular Alpha Hour prayer sessions led by Pastor Elvis Agyemang.
What Happened
The incident reportedly took place when the woman entered the church premises during normal activities, blending in as a worshipper. CCTV footage later revealed that she allegedly poured a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, on items inside the auditorium before setting it alight.
Church security personnel noticed unusual movements and responded swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading across the auditorium. Though some items, including chairs and equipment, were damaged, the situation was brought under control before it could escalate into a major disaster.
No injuries were reported.
Arrest and Police Involvement
Following the incident, the woman was apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation. Authorities have since begun inquiries to determine her motive, mental state, and whether the act was premeditated or influenced by external factors.
At the time of publishing, police have not released an official statement detailing charges, but investigations are ongoing.
Reaction From the Alpha Hour Community
News of the incident spread rapidly across social media, drawing reactions from Alpha Hour followers—popularly known as Alpharians—and members of the general public.
Many expressed shock and disbelief, while others called for heightened security at churches and religious centers. Some users urged caution against speculation, emphasizing the need to allow law enforcement to complete their investigations before drawing conclusions.
Pastor Elvis Agyemang Breaks Silence
Pastor Elvis Agyemang later addressed the incident, describing it as disturbing but assuring followers that the ministry remains steadfast. He expressed gratitude to the security team for their quick intervention and emphasized the importance of prayer, calm, and responsibility in moments of crisis.
Physical activities at the auditorium were temporarily adjusted while restoration works and security assessments were conducted.
